ARTWORK
I paint to chase the architecture of light.
My paintings explore the relationship between light, landscape, and our sense of place. Drawing from the Canadian landscape, particularly the changing atmosphere across water, land, and sky, I use colour and layered marks to explore how light transforms the familiar. Light can flow, fall, cascade, dance, or explode across the canvas, shaping it's movement and atmosphere.
Working between representation and abstraction, I allow each painting to evolve intuitively. Each colour, brushstroke, and line responds to what came before. Landscapes emerge, dissolve, and reappear through layers of colour and texture as I let go of the literal image and discover the painting through the process. Rather than documenting a specific location, I am interested in the sensations these environments evoke and the ways light can shape our memories of a place.
Through my work, I hope to create landscapes that invite viewers to recognize something of their own experiences, memories, and connections to the natural world. Light becomes the experience of the painting itself, something to be felt as well as seen.
